Jesus as the Messiah (8:29*), and the teachings about the temple (11:17*) and about the Messiah as son of David (12:35–37*) follow the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, during which Jesus is associated with the kingdom of David that is coming (11:10*). The teaching of Jesus in Mark, therefore, is not part of the chain of tradition that goes back to Moses and Sinai, but is a new, authoritative teaching based on his eschatological role.34 One of the most striking characteristics of the presentation of
